About This Programme

Offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Prepares students for careers as instrumental or singing teachers, choral conductors, church organists, performing artists or orchestral musicians.

Admission Requirements
Minimum aggregate of 40% for the NSC (excluding Life Orientation)

Additional Requirements

  • National Senior Certificate with at least 40% in each of four school subjects (excluding Life Orientation)
  • In the main instrument (or in singing) at least a practical standard in classical music equivalent to the Grade VII examination and theoretical knowledge equivalent to any of the examining bodies' Grade III/IV theory examination
  • Candidates must be available for an audition and theoretical test at the Department of Music in Stellenbosch — proof of required standards must be demonstrated. Further information at auditions@sun.ac.za
