About This Programme

Offered by the Faculty of Engineering. Civil engineers are responsible for large, permanent works such as irrigation systems, bridges, dams, harbours, canals, airports, roads and streets, pipelines, sewerage systems, railways, and various kinds of heavy construction work.

Admission Requirements
Minimum aggregate of 70% for the NSC (excluding Life Orientation)

Required Subjects percentage

  • Mathematics 70%
  • Physical Sciences 60%
One of the following
  • English Home Language 50%
  • English First Additional Language 60%

Additional Requirements

  • Applicants are also subject to selection according to selection criteria
  • Selection mark = Mathematics percentage + Physical Sciences percentage + (6 x Matric average)
NSC aggregate of at least 70% excluding Life Orientation. A selection mark of 600 or more gave students a good chance of admission in recent years; 620 or more was required for some programmes.
