About This Programme

Offered by the Faculty of Engineering. Chemical engineers specialise in the large-scale operation of processes by which various consumer products are produced, such as chemicals, pharmaceutical products, fertilisers, fuels, metals and other materials.

Admission Requirements
Minimum aggregate of 70% for the NSC (excluding Life Orientation)

Required Subjects percentage

  • Mathematics 70%
  • Physical Sciences 60%
One of the following
  • English Home Language 50%
  • English First Additional Language 60%

Additional Requirements

  • Applicants are also subject to selection according to selection criteria
  • Selection mark = Mathematics percentage + Physical Sciences percentage + (6 x Matric average)
  • Matric average calculated from six best Matric subjects' percentages excluding Life Orientation; maximum score is 800
NSC aggregate of at least 70% excluding Life Orientation. Language requirement: English Home Language 50% with no Afrikaans requirement, OR English First Additional Language 60% with no Afrikaans requirement, OR English Home Language 50% with Afrikaans Home Language 50% OR English First Additional Language 50% with Afrikaans Home Language 50% OR English First Additional Language 50% with Afrikaans Second Additional Language 60%. A selection mark of 600 or more gave students a good chance of admission in recent years; 620 or more was required for some programmes.
