BEd (Intermediate Phase Education)

A four-year professional degree with 125 places, preparing teachers for Grades 4 to 7. Mathematics Education is compulsory in the first year. Students choose two additional teaching subjects.

Required Subjects

• Home Language 4 50–59%
• Second Language (Afrikaans, English or isiXhosa) 3 40–49%
• Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy 3 40–49%

Additional Requirements

• NSC aggregate of at least 60% excluding Life Orientation
• Mathematics 40% OR Mathematical Literacy 60%
• If taught in English: English Home Language 60%, Afrikaans or isiXhosa 50%
• If taught in Afrikaans: Afrikaans Home Language 60%, English or isiXhosa 50%
• If taught in isiXhosa: IsiXhosa Home Language 60%, English or Afrikaans 50%
• Natural Sciences teaching module: Life Sciences or Physical Sciences 50%
• Social Sciences teaching module: History or Geography 50%
