About This Programme

Offered by the Faculty of Education. Prepares teachers for Grades 4 to 7 with the competence to teach two intermediate school subjects and two languages. Approximately 125 places are available in the programme.

Admission Requirements
Minimum aggregate of 60% for the NSC (excluding Life Orientation)

Additional Requirements

  • Mathematics (Ed) is compulsory in the first year and must be passed with 60% average in the first year
  • Two additional teaching subjects must be chosen from: Life Skills, Natural Sciences (Ed) — Life Sciences or Physical Sciences 50%, Social Sciences (Ed) — History or Geography 50%, Mathematics (Ed)
  • Further requirements depend on the school subjects chosen to teach
  • Language requirement depends on language of instruction: Learners taught in English require English HL 60% AND (Afrikaans HL or IsiXhosa HL or FAL) 50%; Learners taught in Afrikaans require Afrikaans HL 60% AND (English or IsiXhosa HL or FAL) 50%; Learners taught in IsiXhosa require IsiXhosa HL 60% AND (English or Afrikaans HL or FAL) 50%

Not all teaching modules are available every year — a minimum number of students per teaching module is required.
