University of Witwatersrand (WITS) - 2025 Applications
University of Witwatersrand offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Whether you're passionate about science, engineering, humanities, or anything in between, Wits has a programme designed to ignite your intellectual curiosity and equip you with the skills to succeed. These study disciplines are offered in Parktown and Braamfontein Campus.
University of Witwatersrand (WITS) Required Documents:
- certified copy of your identity document
- Certified copy of your Senior Certificate/National Senior Certificate or equivalent
- Certified Grade 11 report (if you are currently in grade 12)
PLEASE NOTE: Your application will not be processed if you have not submitted all the required documents. You have an option to submit your documents at a later stage via the student self-service portal
University of Witwatersrand (WITS) Requirements:
Applicants require the following to be considered for entry into any of the five faculties:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC), or Independent Examinations Board (IEB), or South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) subjects, and
- Certain levels of achievement as well as a Bachelor’s degree pass.
- Completion of any other additional Faculty or School requirements where applicable.

NOTE:
- Only one Matric upgrade/rewrite attempt is considered. Applicants upgrading/rewriting Matric subjects for a second time will be unsuccessful.
- Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee a place at the University of Witwatersrand.
How to Apply at University of Witwatersrand (WITS) - 2025
The WITS application process is easy and can be completed entirely online. By following the steps listed below, you can navigate the Wits application process with ease. Pay close attention to ensure that all your details are filled in correctly.
- Visit the WITS Application Site HERE
- Click on the "go to www.wits.ac.za/applications/" link
- Create an account if you are a new student
- Login with your temporary ID and password
- Begin Your application
- Fill in all the required fields
- Upload supporting documents
- Submit your application
TIPS TO APPLY AT WITS!!
- The application should be completed accurately and fully.
- Apply using your names as they appear on your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames).
- You are allowed to apply for only three study choices (order of choice does not matter)
- If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).
- Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programmes in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
- Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.
University of Witwatersrand (WITS) Application Fee
The application fee for University of Witwatersrand (WITS) is R100 for South African citizens and R700 for foreign citizens. Application fee at Wits is non refundable and all applicants must pay the fee to have their application considered. Applicants should use their Person Number or T Number as reference when making payment. Payments should be made before closing date.

WITS Applications for the 2025 academic year close as follows:
- 30 June - Faculty of Health Sciences (all programmes); Bachelor of Architectural Studies; Bachelor of Audiology,
- Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology; BA Film and TV
- 30 September - All other University programmes
- 30 September - Residence applications
