About the University of Witwatersrand

University of Witwatersrand Location:

University of Witwatersrand is located in Johannesburg, Gauteng in South Africa. Wits has a total of 5 campuses all located within the central of Johannesburg. The main campus is situated in the heart of Braamfontein, a central district known for its vibrant cultural scene and educational institutions. The Braamfontein Campus is divided into:
East Campus and West Campus.

The second Wits campus is the Education Campus (Parktown Campus). This campus is primarily dedicated to the Faculty of Humanities’ School of Education. It focuses on teacher training and educational research, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education.

The third Wits campus is the Health Sciences Campus. The Health Sciences Campus houses the Faculty of Health Sciences, which includes schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Oral Health Sciences. It is located close to some of Johannesburg’s major hospitals, allowing for practical training in clinical settings.

The forth Wits campus is the Medical School (Parktown Campus). This is a part of the broader Health Sciences Campus and is specifically dedicated to Wits’ medical programmes. 

The last Wits Campus is the Wits Management Campus (Wits Business School). This campus is home to the Wits Business School (WBS) and the Wits School of Governance. It offers postgraduate programmes in business, management, and public administration, including MBA programs and executive education courses.

REQUIREMENTS OF WITS COURSES

To be accepted at Wits University you need to meet the following general requirements:

  • Have a National Senior Certificate (NSC), or Independent Examinations Board (IEB), or South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) subjects.
  • Have minimum APS (Admission Point Score) as per course requirement.
  • Have certain levels of achievement as set out in the Wits prospectus  (e.g., Mathematics Level 4, Physical Science Level 6, Life Sciences Level 5).
  • A  Bachelor’s degree pass.


NOTE: Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee a place at the Wits University. The University has a specific number of places for first year undergraduates, approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
