The purpose of these regions is to allow UNISA students to get advice, consult with counsellors, meet other students and make use of the institution services and facilities. University of South Africa (UNISA) Required Documents:
University of South Africa requires certified and scanned documents. These documents generally consists of the following:
- certified copy of your identity document Or passport if you are an international student
- Certified copy of your Senior Certificate/National Senior Certificate or equivalent
- Certified Grade 11 report (if you are currently in grade 12)
- Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
- Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
- Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
Please ensure that the documents and images you upload are:
- Clear
- Not be larger than 2MB (2048KB) each
- In black and white
- In PDF (Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format file), DOC (Word document file) OR TIF (image file)
PLEASE NOTE:
- Some qualifications may require additional documents
- Unisa reserves the right to request original documents and/to verify the correctness of submitted documents at any time.
- Submitting fraudulent documents is an offence in terms of the Student Disciplinary Code.
- If you applied prior to 2016, you need to upload all the required documents. Failure to do so may result in a delay in processing your application.

How to Apply at University of South Africa (UNISA) for 2025
Follow the steps below to apply at UNISA for 2025:
- Visit the UNISA application site HERE
- Click on the "undergraduate" button (circle)
- You will be asked if you have student number or not
- Fill in your personal details. (If you already have a student number you will be required to enter your personal details and your student number)
- Select the two courses you want to apply for (make sure that you qualify for these courses) If you don't qualify the system will not allow you to continue with the application.
- Continue with the application and fill in your home and postal address. This is important since Unisa is a distant learning institution and they will require your address to deliver study materials.
- upload all the required documents. NB those applying for social work should submit a police clearance and two testimonials. Those applying for Diploma in Grade R should submit a proof of employment since the grade R applicants should be Grade R teachers in primary school or Creche.
- Submit your application. You will receive an acknowledgement of your application. Make sure that you note down your student number.
- Go to your nearest FNB branch and pay your application fee or you can use your Capitec app to pay the application fee.
University of South Africa (UNISA) Application Fee
UNISA application fee for the 2025 academic year is R140 for online applications. You can pay the application fee once you've received a student number from UNISA.
Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie STUDENTNUMBER 5370810030) to pay application fee. You can pay at any FNB ATM or you can use your Capitec app to pay the UNISA application fee. Click HERE on how to pay Unisa application fee using the Capitec App.
The UNISA application fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available. Unisa does not accept cash at any of its offices.
University of South Africa (UNISA) Closing Dates
The closing date for 2025 applications at UNISA is the 11th of October 2024. Applications received after this date will unfortunately, not be considered for admission. Make sure that you submit your application as soon as possible because there's lot of competition and spaces fill-up quickly.
