The University of South Africa (UNISA) has officially opened its online registration for the 2025 academic year as of 08 January 2025. If you are planning to enrol at UNISA in 2025, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know about the registration process, key dates, and tips for a smooth registration experience.

 

UNISA 2025 Online Registrations Are Officially Open!

The moment many prospective students have been waiting for is finally here! The University of South Africa (UNISA) 2025 online registrations are finally open. UNISA a leading open distance learning institution in South Africa and Africa. These registrations are open for both new and returning students. 

 

UNISA Registration Dates 

Mark these important dates on your calendar to ensure you don’t miss out:

  • Undergraduate and Honours Online Registration Dates

8 January to 21 February 2025: for undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees & postgraduate diplomas (Semester Modules)

8 January to 31 March 2025: for undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees & postgraduate diplomas (Year Modules)

 

  • Master's and Doctoral Online Registration Dates

8 January to 31 March 2025: for master's and doctoral qualifications (some exceptions apply). 

 

UNISA Online Registrations 2025

Here's how to register online at UNISA for the 2025 academic year

  • Visit the Unisa web registration page. Click here to open the page.
  • Choose the qualification level and then click "Go".
  • Enter your student number in the block provided and the other details as required. (If you don’t have a student number you won’t be able to continue. You'll need to apply online for admission.)
  • Check your personal details on screen. Change any contact details that are missing or incorrect. It is very important to provide your correct address and cell phone numbers. Incorrect information may delay the delivery of your study material and prevent you from receiving important information from the university.
  • Click on the modules from the drop-down list for which you want to register. Ensure that you meet all the qualification requirements for your selected modules. You must
    • meet all the pre-requisites and co-requisites for the selected module
    • select the correct period (1 = first semester; 2 = second semester; 0 = year module)
  • Do not exceed the prescribed number of modules per semester or year, as this may result in a delay in your registration being processed. Unisa retains the right to remove modules based on the number of credits allowed per semester and in accordance with the fees paid. Please take note of the maximum period of time you have to complete your qualification.
  • Calculate your fees
    • Use the fee quotation link on the Unisa website (http://www.unisa.ac.za/feequote) to obtain a quote for the cost of your modules.
    • Note the minimum fee that must be paid before Unisa will process your registration. If these fees are more than you can afford, remove modules until you can afford the fees.
  • Submit your registration.

 

How to pay UNISA registration Fee

When you make any payment to Unisa, use your 8-digit student number, followed by a space, and then your allocation as a reference number (eg 12345678 5400374721) to avoid delays in your payment being allocated and the finalisation of your application or registration.


UNISA has a variety of banking methods to allow students to choose an option that is more convenient to them. To pay registration fee you can use the bank deposit, ETFs or credit card method.

 

BANK DEPOSIT

Please note that Unisa banks with First National Bank (FNB) and ABSA Bank. Unisa is a pre-approved public beneficiary. Cash and direct bank deposits can be made at any First National Bank (FNB) and ABSA Bank in South Africa

 

Ensure that the deposit slip is correctly filled in as follows:

  • Deposit to: Unisa Student Fees
  • Bank account number: Unisa Student Fees
  • Deposit reference: first eight (8) blocks are for the student number (if the student number consists of only 7 digits, then a “0” must be filled in as the first digit of the student number). Leave one block open, then fill in the following allocations:
    • 5400374721 for study fees
    • 3000774039 for SBL student fees
    • 5400374225 for library fees
    • 5352X74608 for matriculation exemption fees
    • 5370810030 for the application fee
    • 5400315164 for access cards

Please note:

  • Incomplete or incorrect payment information will not be processed, and Unisa will not be held liable for any resultant delay in the allocation or transfer of funds to study fees accounts.
  • Payments will be allocated within two (2) to ten (10) working days upon receipt of the required information. Proof of payment (remittance or payment advice) and a breakdown of the payment (full names, identity numbers, student numbers and amount per student) must be sent to [email protected]

UNISA Online Registration Closing Date

UNISA has different registration closing dates depending on the type of qualification and whether you are registering for semester or year modules. The closing date for undergraduate and honours qualifications is 21 February 2025 for semester modules and 31 March 2025 for year modules. The closing date for master's and doctoral qualifications is 31 March 2025.

 

Prospective and returning students are encouraged to register with UNISA at their earliest convenience to secure their place. Registration must be completed before the stipulated closing date.
