About the Shoprite Bursary
The Shoprite bursary program plays an important role by providing opportunities to students from disadvantaged backgrounds and it creates a favourable environment for the development of fresh talent. Recipients of bursaries gain invaluable job experience from guaranteed internships after graduation. The bursary programme funds fields that are related to essential business skills.
FIELD OF STUDY
The bursary programme is open to students who want to pursue or are pursuing a undergraduate/postgraduate qualification in the following fields:
- Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA)
- Biological and Agricultural Sciences
- Criminology
- Data Science
- Food Science
- Information Technology/ Systems
- Retail Business Management
- Supply Chain & Logistics
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SHOPRITE BURSARY
To qualify for the Shoprite Bursary you must meet the following requirements:
Accounting(CA Stream – SAICA)
- Must be South African citizen
- Must be 27 years old and younger
- Must be in 2nd, 3rd OR 4th academic year/ PGDA / CTA
- Must be pursuing a BCom Accounting, BAcc (CA stream) degree
- Must have a 65%+ average
- Must have achieved a minimum of 65% in Accounting, Taxation and Auditing
Biological and Agricultural Sciences
- Must be pursuing a BSc Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Botany, Zoology, Genetics and Biotechnology, and any Agricultural degree
- Must have a 60%+ average
- Must be in 3rd or 4th academic year
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be 27 years old and younger
Criminology
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor of Criminology, BA Law/BA Social Work with Criminology as major, BA Honours in Criminology
- Must have achieved a 65%+ average
- Must be in 2nd year
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be 27 years old and younger
Food Science
- Must be pursuing a Food Technology (Food Tech) or Food Science degree
- Must have achieved a 60%+ average
- Must be in 3rd or 4th academic year
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be 27 years old and younger
Data Science
- Must be pursuing a degree or postgraduate qualification in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operational Research, Quantitative Management (or similar quantitative degree), Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Data Engineering
- Must have achieved a 60%+ average
- Must have achieved a minimum 65% in Mathematics (from 2nd year of study)
- Must be in 2nd to 4th academic year/Honours
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be 27 years old and younger
Information Technology/Systems
- Must be pursuing a BSc/BCom majoring in Information Technology/Systems Analysis.
- Must be in 2nd, 3rd or 4th academic year
- Must have achieved a 60%+ academic average
- Must be South African citizen
- Must be 27 years old and younger
Supply Chain and Logistics
- Must be pursuing a Bachelors of Commerce: Logistics (Quantitative Management), Bachelor of Science: Operational Research or related degree/qualification
- Must have achieved 60%+ average
- Must be in 2nd or 3rd academic year
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be 27 years old and younger
Retail Business Management
- Must be pursuing a Diploma in Retail Business Management
- Must have achieved a 65%+ average
- Must be in 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th (Advanced Diploma) academic year
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be 27 years old and younger

- Tuition
- Accommodation
- Books
NB: The value of the bursary will range between R30 000 and R60 000, dependent on the field of study and the institution.
SHOPRITE BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
- Certified copy ID document
- Certified copy of Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Certified copy of academic record, including most recent results (If currently studying)
How to apply for the Shoprite Bursary – 2024
Shoprite Bursary Applications should be submitted online. Follow the steps below to get started:
- Visit the Shoprite vacancies website and register a profile.
- After registering a profile, begin to apply for your desired bursary according to the qualification you are pursuing or want to pursue.
- Upload clear copies of the required documents and submit your application.
NOTE: ONLY applications submitted online will be considered for funding.
