About the Sappi Engineering Bursary programme. 

The Sappi Bursary Programme is aimed at supporting deserving students who are pursuing qualification in fields related to the Sappi operations. The programme aims to develop skills and expertise that align with Sappi's business needs, foster a culture of excellence and innovation, and contribute to the growth and development of the industry. Through this programme, the Sappi Bursary Programme seeks to empower students to reach their full potential, become future leaders, and make meaningful contributions to the paper manufacturing sector. 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who want to pursue or are pursuing an undergraduate qualification in the following fields:

• Chemical Engineering (BSc or BEng)
• Civil Engineering (BSc or BEng)
• Electrical Engineering (BSc or BEng)
• Forestry and Wood Science (BSc)
• Industrial Engineering (BSc or BEng)
• Mechanical Engineering (BSc or BEng)
• Mechatronics Engineering  (BSc or BEng)

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SAPPI BURSARY PROGRAMME. 

To qualify for the Sappi bursary programme, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must be a South African citizen.
• You must have completed matric or in matric 
• You must demonstrate financial need. 
• You must have achieved more than 70% for Maths (not Maths Lit), 70% for Physical Science and 60% for English in Matric or Grade 11 if you are currently in Matric.
• Preference will be given to learners with an average of 75% and above in Mathematics and Physical Science.
• You must intend to study or studying full time at a university supported by Sappi for Engineering studies
• Preference will be given to applicants from areas where Sappi operates.

• Tuition fees 
• Books
• Accommodation
• Living allowance

NB: Bursary cover will be according to applicants financial need. 

SAPPI BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

• Your certified copy of ID 
• Your latest Matric results (if currently in Matric)
• Your Grade 11 final results (if currently in Matric)
• Your certified Matric certificate (if completed)
• Full tertiary academic record (if currently at tertiary level)
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• You must be between the ages of 17 and 25 years old

The closing date for the Sappi Engineering bursary programme applications for the 2025 academic year is the 31st of August 2024.
