The South African Speech Language and Hearing Association (SASLHA) is inviting students to apply for funding through their Myrtle L. Aron Bursary programme for the 2025 academic year. The deadline for 2025 applications for the SASLHA (Myrtle L. Aron) bursary is the 14th of February 2025. 

MYRTLE L ARON BURSARY 2025

About the Myrtle L Aron Bursary:

The bursary's primary goal is to provide financial support to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who want to pursue degrees in audiology or speech language therapy. Through this bursary, the SASLHA hopes to increase awareness of speech language pathology and speech therapy professions to inspire young people to choose these career paths and gain valuable skills in helping people who struggle with communication. 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing an undergraduate qualification in the following fields:

• Speech-Language Pathology 
• Audiology 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MYRTLE L ARON BURSARY

To qualify for the Myrtle L Aron Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

• Must have completed Matric
• Must be studying towards a degree qualification in the above listed fields 
• Must successfully completed second or third year of study (if studying Audiology)
• Must be entering your third or fourth year of study (if studying Speech Language Therapy)
• Must be studying at an accredited university in South Africa
• Must have a strong academic record
• Must demonstrate financial need
• May NOT change your degree course after submitting your application
• Preference will be given to SASLHA student members, you can register to be a member on the SASLHA website.

MYRTLE L ARON BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

• Certified copy of ID document
• Certified copy of matric certificate
• Certified copy of full academic record.
• Two testimonial letters from Departmental staff or supervisors, on the University letterhead and signed by the staff member, the letters should give input on your academic potential, leadership, why they recommend you for the bursary award and any other important information. 
• Parents/Guardians proof of income (latest pay slips if employed or affidavit if unemployed)
• Death certificates if parents or guardians are deceased
• Three months bank statements of the individual responsible for paying your university expenses 
• Two minutes video recording, briefly answering the following questions: Tell us something about yourself, why you believe you deserve this award and how you plan on contributing to the profession in the short and medium term. 

How to apply for the Myrtle L Aron Bursary for 2025

Applying for the Myrtle L Aron is easy. Follow these steps below to get started with your application: 

• Visit the SASLHA website HERE to apply online
• Fully complete the online application form 
• Attach the required certified and scanned documents 
• Attach the two minutes video (Video should be not be more than 10mb)

All documents must be scanned and sent as ONE attachment.
