Great news for the Class of 2025! Your National Senior Certificate (NSC) is officially ready for collection. If you successfully passed your matric exams, you can now claim your official certificate from your school or examination centre. This certificate is a vital document that unlocks opportunities for further studies at universities and TVET colleges, as well as crucial job applications, learnerships, and bursary applications. Don't miss out on claiming this significant academic milestone.
When and Where to Collect Your 2025 Matric Certificate
The matric certificates for the Class of 2025 have been available for collection since 10 March 2026. You will need to collect your certificate from the very same school or examination centre where you completed your final matric exams. It's important to remember that only candidates who successfully passed their matric exams will be issued with a certificate. Please ensure you bring valid identification with you when you go to collect it.
What to Bring for Collection
If you are collecting your own certificate:
- A valid South African ID document or passport.
- Your exam number (if you have it readily available).
- You may be asked to sign a register to confirm collection.
If someone else is collecting on your behalf (proxy):
- A certified copy of your (the candidate's) ID document.
- A signed letter of authorisation from you, the candidate.
- The proxy's own valid ID document.
Lost or Damaged Certificates: How to Apply for a Replacement
If your matric certificate has been lost, damaged, or you simply need a replacement, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and Umalusi provide services to assist you. You can apply for a replacement certificate through the DBE's eServices portal or directly via Umalusi. While you wait for your replacement certificate, a statement of results can be issued immediately, serving as an interim record. This is often very useful for immediate applications where your original certificate is required.
Requirements for Replacement Certificates and Fees
To apply for a replacement certificate, you will generally need the following:
- A completed application form.
- An affidavit from a police station confirming the loss or damage, if applicable.
- The original damaged certificate, if you still have it.
- A certified copy of your South African ID or passport.
- Proof of payment for the replacement fee.
The process typically takes between four to six weeks for records that are already on the system. Umalusi states a timeframe of 1-6 weeks. If your records are not on the system, the process may take longer.
For the period of 01 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, the fees are as follows:
- Replacement Certificate: R170.00
- Additional Statement of Results: R60.00
Please note that these fees are subject to annual review. It is important to be aware that once a replacement certificate is issued, the original certificate (if found later) is cancelled and becomes invalid.
Collecting your matric certificate is a critical step after completing your Grade 12 year. Your NSC is your key to unlocking opportunities, whether you're aiming for university, seeking employment, or pursuing further training. Ensure you are aware of the collection requirements and understand the process for replacements should the need arise. Always keep your certificate safe, and refer to the official DBE or Umalusi websites for the most current information and application forms.
