Masakh’iSizwe Bursary - 2025

About the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary programme:

The Masakh’iSizwe was established in 2006 by the Western Cape Government of Transport and Public Works. The programme aims to develop and improve access to the transport, engineering and built environment sectors. The department felt these sectors are critical to the growth and economy of the Western Cape province, South Africa and Africa as a whole. While completing their studies bursars will have to work back the bursary by working in the public service industry for every year they are funded by the bursary. 

 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who want to pursue or are pursuing an undergraduate qualification in the following fields:

  • Architecture
  • Construction Management
  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
  • Quantity surveying
  • Town and Regional Planning
  • Transport Economics 
  • Geomatics
  • Property Studies.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MASAKH’ISIZWE BURSARY PROGRAMME. 

To qualify for the Masakh’iSizwe bursary programme, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You must be in matric or you must have completed matric.
  • You must be accepted to study or intending to study a degree or diploma qualification in one of the above listed fields. 
  • You must be studying towards a degree or diploma qualification in one of the above listed fields. 
  • You must be accepted to study or intending to study at one of the following universities: University of Cape Town, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Stellenbosch University. 
  • You must have a strong academic record/results.
  • First priority will be given to but not limited to persons with disabilities,  people who are financially disadvantaged, female and other applicants from rural areas.

  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Study materials
  • Support Programme
  • Tuition Fees
  • Transportation costs.  

 

MASAKH’ISIZWE BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Certified copy of applicant's ID
  • Certified copy of applicants Matric certificate or latest results
  • Certified copy of latest academic record (if currently studying)
  • Full course outline
  • Study cost estimate
  • Proof of registration or application at a university. 
  • Parents/guardian/spouse proof of income or affidavit to support financial status. 
  • Proof of residence.
  • Motivation letter
  • Proof of financial aid , if applicable.
  • Proof of existing debt, if applicable.
  • Proof of disability, if applicable.
  • If you have a criminal record, please produce a SAPS police clearance.

CLOSING DATE:

The closing date for the Makh'isizwe bursary applications for the 2025 academic year is the 31st of August 2024. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered. If you do not receive communication from the programme by the 14th of February 2025, please consider your application unsuccessful.
