Addressing Youth Unemployment
South Africa continues to grapple with high levels of youth unemployment, making skills development programmes such as this learnership increasingly important. By targeting unemployed youth, Ikhala TVET College aims to bridge the gap between education and employment.
Learnerships combine classroom-based learning with structured workplace training, giving participants hands-on experience while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive an NQF Level 4 qualification in Long-Term Insurance, which can improve their chances of securing permanent employment or furthering their studies in the financial services field.
The Queensstown Campus, where the programme will be offered, serves students from across the Eastern Cape and surrounding regions. The campus has been expanding its focus on industry-aligned programmes to ensure graduates are equipped with skills that meet labour market demands.
Building Career Pathways in Insurance
The insurance sector remains a significant contributor to South Africa’s economy, offering career opportunities in sales, underwriting, claims administration, and customer relations. An NQF Level 4 qualification can serve as a stepping stone into entry-level roles within insurance companies, brokerages, and financial advisory firms.
For many young people, learnerships provide a crucial first entry point into the job market. The practical experience gained during the 12-month period can enhance a candidate’s employability and professional confidence.
Ikhala TVET College has reiterated its commitment to empowering youth through accessible and relevant education programmes. By focusing on industry-driven qualifications, the institution aims to contribute meaningfully to economic development and job creation in the region.
