About the East London IDZ (ELIDZ) Bursary

Through this bursary the ELIDZ hopes to encourage the growth of a talent base that is in line with the organization's significant social investment goals and the ELIDZ's stated skill requirements. The bursary aims to promote higher education in the fields of mathematics, science, and technology among matriculants in the Eastern Cape to aid in the construction of the region's limited resources.

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing or want to pursue a undergraduate qualification in the following fields:

• Mathematics 
• Science 
• Technology 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE EAST LONDON IDZ BURSARY

To qualify for the East London IDZ Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

• Must be a South African citizen or naturalized South African citizen 
• Must have completed Matric, or in Matric in 2023.
• Must be a EASTERN CAPE resident
• Must be between 16 and 26 years of age
• 2023 Matriculants; must have achieved at least 60% for Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) and a 60% average for all other subjects during the June and November examinations. 
• Applicants that completed Grade 12 BEFORE 2023 must have a Matric Certificate and achieved at least 60% for Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) and a 60% average for their final examinations.
• Must have already applied to a South African university and in possession of a University Acceptance letter or provisional acceptance letter.
• Must demonstrate financial need 
• Must be intending to pursue/ currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in the above listed fields
• Must have intentions of pursuing postgraduate studies AFTER undergraduate studies. 
• Must NOT be receiving funding from any other bursary provider 
• Must NOT be under obligation to any other bursary provider
• Students with disabilities and students from disadvantaged background are encouraged to apply.

 EAST LONDON IDZ  BURSARY COVERS:

• Registration 
• Tuition
• Prescribed textbooks; and approved study materials 
• Accommodation
• Meals

Note: The bursary offers R50 000 (max) per student, per year and the bursary will NOT pay outstanding debt or loans. 

EAST LONDON IDZ BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

• Certified copy of South African ID 
• Certified copy of  Statement of symbols / results for the National Senior Certificate (2023 Matriculants) 
• Certified copy of National Senior Certificate/matric certificate 
• If currently studying; Certified copy of latest academic record
• Parents/Guardians proof of residence (e.g. utility bill/ credit store account/Affidavit confirming proof of residency etc...)
• Proof of income of Parents/Guardians (payslip not older than 3 months) If unemployed; Affidavit confirming unemployment OR Proof of state grant (e.g. SASSA letter); if applicable
• Motivational letter stating why you should be considered for this bursary (one page) 
• Certified copies of achievement / merit certificates
• Testimonial letter from a prominent community member (one page)
• If currently studying; Testimonial letter from your school Principal or a lecturer/other university staff (one page)
