The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is inviting students to apply for their bursary program for the 2025 academic year. Applicants have until 31 January 2025 to apply.

About Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Bursary
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Bursary Program aims to strengthen cultural identity by prioritizing studies related to South African heritage, including indigenous knowledge systems and living traditions. This helps preserve and promote the country's rich cultural tapestry for future generations. By supporting education in sport, arts, and culture, the bursary program aims to unlock the economic potential of these sectors. This can lead to job creation.
FIELD OF STUDY
The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing or want to pursue undergraduate/postgraduate qualification in the following fields:
- Anthropology (exclusively with a focus on forensic / medical anthropology)
- Archaeology (exclusively with a focus on marine and underwater cultural heritage, and forensic)
- Archives and Records management
- Conservation of the built environment including preventive conservation
- Collections (cultural & natural) management (Not Nature Conservation)
- Palaeontology
- Museum Studies or Management and Curatorship
- IKS or Courses that contribute to the preservation and promotion of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and
- S.A. Living Heritage
- Marketing of heritage
- Digital heritage
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF SPORT, ARTS AND CULTURE BURSARY
To qualify for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Bursary you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric OR in matric
- You must be studying or intend to study towards an undergraduate/postgraduate qualification in the above mentioned fields.
- You must be studying or intend to study at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training
- You must not be employed full time in the private sector, government or state agencies with a salary of more than R350 000 per year
- Students who are beneficiaries of other bursaries or donors for the 2023 academic year will not be considered.
- You must be 40 years old or younger

- Tuition fees
- Textbooks
- Laptop
- Accommodation
- Meals
NOTE: The maximum value of the bursary is R110 000 per student and funds will be paid directly to the higher institution of learning.

- Your certified ID Document
- Passport Type Photo (.jpg format)
- Certified copy of Matric certificate/statement
- Certified copy of your matric latest results
- Full academic Record if you are studying
- Acceptance Letter OR Provisional acceptance
- Postgraduate students: progress report from supervisor, if writing a dissertation or thesis
