The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) invites South African students to apply for tertiary education funding for 2025 through their 2025 STANLIB Bursary. Applications for the bursary can be submitted online by the 17th of January 2025.
 

ABSIP Bursary Fund - 2025 Online Applications Open

About the ABSIP Bursary:

STANLIB, in collaboration with ABSIP, is providing full funding support, for historically disadvantaged students as defined by the BBBEE Act pursuing a career in investment management. The bursary program identifies and nurtures potential future leaders in the industry, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their chosen careers. ABSIP aims to contribute to overall economic development and empower Black communities through increased participation in the financial sector.
 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing or want to pursue undergraduate qualification in the following fields:

  • Bsc/BCom/BBusSc in Business Finance
  • Bsc/BCom/BBusSc in Economics
  • Bsc/BCom/BBusSc in Financial analysis
  • Bsc/BCom/BBusSc in Investment Management
  • Bsc/BCom/BBusSc in Mathematics
  • Bsc/BCom/BBusSc in Statistics

 

NOTE:  

BSc: Bachelor of Science

BCom: Bachelor of Commerce

BBusSc: Bachelor of Business Science

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ABSIP BURSARY

To qualify for the ABSIP Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • Must be Black (as defined by the B-BBEE Act)
  • Must be in financial need.
  • Must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards an Investment Management qualification.
  • Must have a STRONG academic record if you are currently a student
  • Must have completed Matric.
  • Must NOT be a STANLIB employee or a relative of a STANLIB employee
  • Must NOT have permanent work experience (except for vacation work experience)
  • You must have achieved a minimum average of 75% for core academic modules/subjects.
  • Applicants must be intending to study or studying at the following universities:

ï‚· University of Fort Hare
ï‚· University of Free State
ï‚· University of Johannesburg

ï‚· University of Venda
ï‚· University of Western Cape
ï‚· University of Witwatersrand
ï‚· University of Zululand
ï‚· Walter Sisulu University

NOTE: Demonstration of leadership qualities and participation in extracurricular activities
such as sport or debating is preferable.

  • Tuition
  • Accommodation

  • Stipend
  • Laptop

 

ABSIP BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Your certified ID Document
  • Certified ID copies of parents or legal guardians
  • Academic Record (if studying)
  • Fee Statement from the institution
  • One-page motivational letter on why you wish to study or are studying towards an Investment Management qualification
  • Parents or legal guardians certified three months’ payslips and bank statements.
  • Parents or legal guardians affidavit (if unemployed)

CLOSING DATE:

Applications for the ABSIP bursary for the 2025 academic year close on the 17th of January 2025. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. This means all required documents must be submitted by the deadline. Applicants are encouraged to apply well in advance to avoid any last-minute technical issues or delays.
