Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University is a medical university in Ga-Rankuwa, Gauteng Province, South Africa. Its current form was established on 1 January 2015. Previously, it was known as Medical University of South Africa and later as MEDUNSA campus of the University of Limpopo. SMU offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in health sciences. Certified copy of your Senior Certificate/National Senior Certificate or equivalent
Certified Grade 11 report (if you are currently in grade 12)
Your grade 12 June report (if you are currently in grade 12)

PLEASE NOTE: Your application will not be processed if you have not submitted all the required applicable documentation mentioned ABOVE. If you have not submitted the required documentation within a period of two months, unfortunately your application will not be considered.

Sefako Makgatho University (SMU) Requirements:

The specific requirements for admission vary depending on the programme you are applying for. However, most programs will require good grades in the following subjects: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics and English. How to Apply at Sefako Makgatho University (SMU) - 2025

Sefako Makgatho University Applications should be submitted online. Follow the steps below to apply online at SMU:

Visit the SMU Application Site HERE
Scroll and click on the "Apply online for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes by clicking here" button
Answer few questions and click on the "accept" button
Capture your biographical information and click "next" to proceed with your application;
Capture results details then add subjects and click "next";
Capture educational institution detail and click "next";
Capture academic application details (choose 2 choices/programmes you wish to apply for), click on "add qualification" and thereafter click "next";
Verify/Check your application details then click "continue";
Create your 5 digit PIN (e.g 24689), click "I accept"(twice) checkbox thereafter click "Submit Application";
Upload your documents, select "yes" on the dropdown list if all your documents are ready to be uploaded and then click "next";
Click "Load/View Document" >> "Upload document" >> "Choose/Browse file" go to the folder where your documents are stored, choose the relevant document and click "save";
Once all documents have been uploaded click "complete upload";

TIPS TO APPLY AT SMU!!

The application should be completed accurately and fully.
The names should be the same as they appear in your identity/passport document.
You are allowed to apply for only two study choices.
The first qualification chosen will be regarded as your first choice and the other one as your second choice.
You should select the qualification code and name from the “List of Values” provided.
The residence section should only be completed if you wish to stay in the University residence.

Sefako Makgatho University (SMU) Application Fee

The application fee for Sefako Makgatho University (SMU) is R300 (South African Rand). It is a non-refundable fee that all applicants must pay to have their application considered. Applicants should use their ID number as reference when making payment.

Applications for the 2025 academic year for all programmes close as follows:

Wednesday, 31 July 2024 for undergraduate qualifications
Friday, 30 August 2024 for postgraduate qualifications
