The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) is excited to announce that their bursary programme is now accepting applications for the 2025 academic year. If you are a dedicated student who is passionate about pursuing higher education, this bursary programme is definitely for you! Applications are currently open and will close on the 30th of September 2024.

About the IDC Bursary programme:

The IDC External Bursary programme is a initiative designed to empower South Africa's future leaders and change-makers. The programme aims to provide financial support to bright and deserving students pursuing higher education in selected fields. They aim to develop skills and expertise that align with the country's economic growth priorities, foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and social responsibility and address scarce skills shortages and promote economic transformation through this funding programme. 

 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing or want to pursue an undergraduate/postgraduate qualification in the following fields:

  • Internal Audit
  • Cost and Management Accounting

  • Transport or Logistics Management

NOTE: Funding for postgraduate qualification will only be granted to applicants who are studying: Finance, Accounting and Law.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IDC BURSARY PROGRAMME.

To qualify for the IDC bursary programme, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You must have completed matric or currently in matric.
  • You must demonstrate financial need. 
  • You must have a combined household income of no more than R600 000,00 p/a.
  • You must be studying or accepted to study a qualification in one of the above listed fields.
  • You must be pursuing or intending to pursue your FIRST undergraduate qualification in any public institution in South Africa, including TVETs
  • You must be an excellent academic achiever (Matriculants with a minimum average of of 75% while applicants already studying  at a tertiary level must have a minimum of 65% average ) 
  • You must not be older than 26 years old.
  • First preference will be given to applicants who are studying or matriculated at Quintile 1,2 & 3 schools (rural schools), and schools from previously disadvantaged communities.
  • Applicants living with disability will be given first preference.

 

IDC BURSARY COVERS:

  • Full tuition fees,
  • Full Fees for on-campus accommodation and meals (institution rates will apply)
  • Capped amount for off-campus university accredited accommodation
  • Capped amount for Self-Catering Meal allowance
  • Capped amount for Transport allowance
  • Laptop (once-off)

 

IDC BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  •  South African recently certified copy of Identity Document (not older than 6 months from the date of application)
  • 2024 mid-year (first semester) results or latest results if not studying this year (gap year applicants).
  • A recently certified copy of Grade 11 results or current year’s grade 12 June results, recently certified copy of matric results
  • A provisional acceptance letter/admission letter from the institution
  • Recently certified copies of both parent(s) identity document (not older than 6 months).
  • If the surname of the applicant & the parent(s) is different: student should provide a recently certified copy of the unabridged birth certificate.
  • Required documents to verify parents or guardians’ household income:
    Recently certified copy of latest pay slip if employed
    Recently certified copy of 3 Months Bank Statements reflecting income if employed or self-employed
    Affidavit if unemployed stating annual
    Recently certified copy of 6 Months Bank Statements if un-employed
    Recently certified copy of SASSA letter stating the grants received if applicable
    Recently certified copy of Parent(s) death certificates if parent(s) are deceased
    Recently certified copy of divorce certificate if parents are divorced OR sworn statement from the one parent if parents are separated.

Applications for the IDC bursary programme must be completed online, and applicants should submit clear copies of all required supporting documents (PICTURES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED) and complete the interview questionnaire. To get started with your online application follow the guide below:

  • Register a profile by filling in your personal details (if you don't have a profile yet) 
  • You will be required to create a username and password
  • Login in with your username and password and begin your application.
